چکیده

In this paper we report an investigation of venous pressures during exercise in ambulant patients. The investigation was undertaken because we wished to assess more accurately the abnormal venous mechanisms in patients complaining of swollen, painful or ulcerated legs. Phlebography, upon which great reliance has formerly been placed, has two limitations. Firstly, it yields only a knowledge of anatomical or architectural venous defects, which may be difficult or impossible to correlate with the accompanying symptoms. Secondly, phlebograms are difficult to interpret and may give misleading information. The method described below has enabled us to obtain functional as well as anatomical data ; and from a

Comparison of blood pressure measurements on the upper and lower extremities during spinal anesthesia

Introduction: During spinal anesthesia, measurement of blood pressure is often obtained by an indirect method using an inflatable cuff on the upper arm. The relationship between the blood pressure measurements at the two sites in patients undergoing spinal anesthesia is unclear. This study was designed to evaluate the difference observed in systolic blood pressure (SBP) taken from the upp...

Management of Catheter Induced Upper Limb Suppurative Thrombophlebitis in a Patient after Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery: a Case Report

Introduction: One of the important complications of peripheral venous catheters is suppurative thrombophlebitis that would be life threatening without treatment. In this report, we introduce a patient who developed purulent thrombophlebitis due to venous catheter in the upper limb after coronary artery bypass graft surgery. Multiple abscess formation was developed on her upper limb after the th...

Perforator Flaps for Reconstruction of Lower Limb Defects

BACKGROUND Reconstruction of soft tissue defects in the lower third of the leg remains challenging. Anatomical constraints limit the local options available for complex defects especially lower third of leg. Local flaps based on perforator vessels are raising interest in reconstructive surgery of the limbs. We present our experience with perforator flaps for reconstruction of soft tissue def...

Pathogenesis of chronic venous insufficiency and possible effects of compression and pentoxifylline.

It has been recognized for over 2000 years that ulceration of the leg may be associated with visible varices of the lower limb. More recent physiological investigation has shown that the pressure in the veins of the lower limb remains raised in patients with venous ulceration during ambulation, whereas in normal subjects the pressure in superficial veins falls to a low level. This elevated pres...

Venous Thromboembolism Following Travel

International travel has become increasingly common and accessible, hence, about two billion passengers undertake international and domestic air travel each year. Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a serious public health disorder which may occur following prolonged travel, especially after air travel. A direct relation between VTE development and prolonged travels has been documented, while some ...
